What We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Account data: Email address, display name, and password (stored securely via Firebase Authentication)
  • Check-in data: Connection style rankings, scores (1-10), and free-text explanations about your relationship
  • Usage data: Session IDs, timestamps, and completion status

Check-in data, including free-text explanations, may contain sensitive personal information about your intimate relationships. We treat all check-in data with heightened care.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used to:

  • Power the HowYouLoveMe check-in and comparison features
  • Generate AI-powered relationship insights
  • Send transactional emails (invites, results notifications)
  • Display ads (only with your cookie consent)

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

AI Analysis and Third-Party Processing

When you request an AI analysis, your check-in data (including display names and free-text explanations) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. Anthropic retains API inputs and outputs for up to 7 days for safety monitoring, after which the data is deleted. This data is not used by Anthropic for model training.

Third-Party Services

  • Google Firebase: Authentication, data storage (Firestore), and app hosting
  • Anthropic (Claude API): AI analysis generation
  • Resend: Transactional email delivery
  • Google AdSense: Personalized advertising (loaded only with cookie consent)

Cookies and Advertising

We use essential cookies for Firebase Authentication session management. If you accept cookies via our consent banner, Google AdSense may set additional cookies for ad personalization per Google's privacy policy. You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clearing your browser's local storage.

Data Retention

Session data is retained in Google Cloud Firestore until you delete it from your dashboard. Account data is retained until you request account deletion. AI analysis data sent to Anthropic is retained by them for up to 7 days.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: View your data within the app
  • Delete: Delete individual sessions from the dashboard, or request full account deletion
  • Export: Download your results as CSV or JSON from the results page
  • Opt out of ads: Decline cookies via the consent banner

For California residents: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If Google AdSense is enabled with your consent, Google may use data for ad personalization, which you can opt out of via the cookie consent banner.

For EU/EEA residents: Our legal basis for processing account data is contract performance. For AI analysis, the legal basis is your explicit consent when you click "Generate Insights." Data is transferred to the US where our service providers (Firebase, Anthropic, Resend) operate.

Children

HowYouLoveMe is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it promptly.
